Shutdown or not, ‘impacts will ripple for months’

Cloud computing, integrated servers and virtualization have made it harder for agencies to figure out exactly how to handle IT operations in the event of a government shutdown.

Mark Forman, who served in the first federal chief information officer role as the administrator of e-government and IT, has seen this song and dance before, but says this time around it will be a different ball game, especially when it comes to securing the federal government’s IT infrastructure.

On Monday, Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Colorado to view damage from the recent flooding and survey recovery efforts.

Severe storms and heavy rains that started around September 11 dumped a record-setting 10 to 18 inches of rain in parts of northern and central Colorado, causing widespread flooding, landslides and mudslides across a wide swath of the state .
